Which board do I need?
Every cube runs on a standard board. With Fusion and Next a ready-made board with display, touch and processor in one is enough, no soldering needed. WetterCube and WetterCubePlus are wired from an ESP32 board and a display (pin assignment and instructions are in the wikis of the projects).
Important: WetterCube is a software project. I provide the software (firmware); you do the building yourself: you buy the matching board (for WetterCube and WetterCubePlus also the display), flash the firmware and design a case to your own taste. I try to offer matching cases for the individual cubes, but the focus is on the software. Finished devices are not offered. You find short build guides under Build guide.
Why ready-made boards? For Fusion and Next I deliberately rely on complete boards with an integrated display: building is easy even for people who know nothing about building and wiring up an ESP32 and the like. WetterCube and WetterCubePlus, by contrast, are aimed at people with some knowledge of electronics, because there cables have to be crimped and parts soldered.
WetterCube Fusion: Waveshare boards only. The software is only reliably supported on exactly these boards: the Waveshare ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-7B and, as long as the P4 board is not yet supported, the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-7B. Combined boards with a display often differ from vendor to vendor in display, touch or connectors.
WetterCube Next: only the described CYD. The software is meant for the ESP32 CYD ESP32-2432S028 (2.8", 320×240, ST7789). CYD boards differ depending on the vendor, for example in the display controller, the colours or the orientation.
Other boards are not supported and can cause problems. So buy exactly the named boards. As soon as more boards are available, board-specific versions are to be offered in the long term; there is no fixed date yet.

How to build a cube is explained under Build guide.
| Product | Board | Display | Touch | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WetterCube Fusion | Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-7B (today), Waveshare ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-7B (target board, to follow) | 7", 1024×600 | capacitive | Everything on one board. Use the USB port labelled UART for flashing. The P4 board is the future main board; the S3 stays as a backup. |
| WetterCube Next | ESP32 CYD "Cheap Yellow Display" ESP32-2432S028 | 2.8", 320×240, ST7789 | resistive (tapping turns the page) | Everything on one board. Needs a Fusion on the same network. |
| WetterCubePlus | ESP32-S3 N16R8 | 3.5", 480×320, ILI9488 | resistive, XPT2046 | Wiring according to the pin assignment in the wiki. |
| WetterCube | ESP32-C3 Super Mini | 1.54", 240×240, ST7789 | touch button TTP223 | Wiring according to the pin assignment in the wiki. |
Where do I get the boards?
The boards are available in common online shops. Search for the name in the table, for example Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-7B or ESP32-2432S028 (often offered as „CYD“ or „Cheap Yellow Display“). With the CYD make sure it is the version with the 2.8-inch display. How the device is set up is described on the page Install.
Case: print it yourself
The cubes can be built into a self-printed case.
- WetterCube Fusion: A matching case is in the works. A free 3D-print file will be added here later.
- WetterCube: The cube by Keralots, which you find on Bambu MakerWorld, is recommended: Simple Print Monitor – ST7789 1.54" Display Case.
- WetterCubePlus: The case from the photos (lower part and lid, 3MF) is available for free. Recommended: PLA or PETG, 0.4 mm nozzle. Download here: lower part · lid, or on GitHub.
- WetterCube Next: print a case as you like; notes and files will follow as soon as they are ready.
Tip: Check the blog now and then. As soon as the 3D-print file for the Fusion is available, there will be a post.
